TikTok shows a way to counter bias

TikTok, which has a glorious record of defending its legal rights and interests, has filed a lawsuit against Montana's Attorney General Austin Knudson and his office over a fresh ban on downloading the TikTok app in Montana, the United States.

Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer signed a bill on May 17, forbidding people in the region from downloading the app on their smartphones. Those supporting the ban list "security concern" as a reason, even though anybody who has ever used the app for even an hour will know that it is mainly used for leisure activities.

Certain US politicians want to ban the app because its parent company is based in China, but the lawsuit has been filed by a US-based corporation against a US State-level government. Actually, on May 17, the day Governor Schweitzer signed the bill banning TikTok, five account holders raised lawsuits against the local government. Many legal experts say the ban is unconstitutional and violates several US laws.

Also, the lawsuit has not been filed by China against the US, but by US residents and a US corporation against an unfair decision taken by the US government.

The case fully shows how the US government is hurting the interests of all by treating an app as an enemy.

TikTok is only one of the apps with a Chinese connection to have been banned by the US. Similarly, ByteDance is one of many Chinese companies that suffered from discrimination in the US. The lawsuit marks a good start to remind them of the possibility of solving the problems through judicial means in the US.
