The Paper Tigers' Hutong Hipster music video release party in Beijing

          Date: March 4 - 8:30 pm

          Venue: Dusk Dawn Club (DDC)

          Price: 50 pre-sale; 60 at the door

Beijing's hottest indie rock band, The Paper Tigers, will celebrate the release of its first single and accompanying music video at Dusk Dawn Club, the hip music club and events space enlivening the capital's hutong arts scene. The song Hutong Hipster and its video are tributes to life lived in Beijing and in its fertile cultural underground, where creativity comes with whiskey, bicycles and rock 'n' roll. Also playing on an evening of what DDC calls "Massive Rock" are hard rock, blues and funk outfit OCC; the cinematic post-metal of INXU; and the progressive rock of the Feng Di Band. If all work and no play makes everyone dull boys and girls, then it's time to jump onto your bikes and get out into that Beijing night.

And as if the music wasn't enough, there are drinks specials and prizes galore. Courtesy of Jameson Irish Whiskey, the first 200 audience members to arrive will receive a voucher for a free shot of the "spirit of Ireland." Concertgoers willing to wear something green and approximate a rowdy Irish accent get a special Irish discount: buy one Guinness and get one free. Way back in 1403, Hu Zhong, who was appointed as the temporary patriarch of the village by her husband before he took office afar, tried to protect all villagers against the long-term damage by fire hazard as the village was located far away from any rivulet. Later, with the help of He Keda, Huizhou's geomancy master, the villagers completed an ox-shaped watercourse for enhancing the natural habitat after several years' effort. During the construction, this beautiful, delicate lady underwent twists and turns like funds shortage and engineering accidents. She also had to face difficulties like gender bias and spite from villagers out of jealousy. To make things worse, her husband not only stayed out for a long time, but also diverted his project fund for a concubine. But all sufferings have their rewards. A crystal stream emerged and began gushing up finally. Such bold attempt has kept the village alive up to now. After 600 years, the water system has been granted the laurel of "World Cultural Heritage" by UNESCO.
