Silk Road journeys in Jiangsu

The Mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen in Nanjing was built in 1926 in honor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925), the founding father of the Republic of China. Characters representing the noble spirit of Dr. Sun have been delicately reflected in its architecture design, such as "Bo Ai", literally means love for all, is written on a marble Paifang (memorial archway) at the entrance and "Tian Xia Wei Gong" with the meaning of "What is under heaven is for all" written by Dr. Sun have been inscribed on the tri-arched marble gate.[Photo/chinadaily.com.cn]

At the Nanjing Yunjin Museum, you can have a close look at the traditional jacquard silk fabric "Yunjin", which has entered the international fashion world by famous Chinese designer Laurence Xu through his fashion shows at the Paris Haute Couture Autumn/Winter Fashion Week 2013. Enjoying a history of over 1,500 years, the brocade was produced only for royal families in ancient China. It is the only silk textile still handmade with complicated procedures to incorporate luxurious materials such as gold, silk and peacock feather yarn in the production process. With superb weaving techniques and splendid cloud patterns, Nanjing Yunjin was listed into the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009. [Photo/njyunjin.cn]
