反轉(zhuǎn)派 (fanzhuanpai): Anti-GM group

The debate about genetically modified food in China has divided opinion. Anti-GM activists resolutely oppose GM food. They believe that not only scientists and researchers have the right to speak about GM food because it relates to the interests of everyone in the society. The public has the right to be suspicious and challenge the safety of GM food because they are the final consumers and are exposed to any possible risk or harm that GM food may cause. As to what we eat, the public should have the right to know.

If the authorities insist on promoting GM food, the GM food in the market should be clearly labeled and the customers could make their own choice. Some anti-GM activists argue that GM food can only be regarded as safe if it is proved to be safe when applied to real conditions outside the lab. But the safety of GM food in the real environment is still questionable.

Anti-GM activists also challenge the promotion of GM food. They suppose there is an interest group among the scientific community, capital and power with external support. The final beneficiary of GM food is the upstream interest chain, while the public has to take all the possible risks of GM food.
