Wang Wei

Research fellow and Director-General, Institute for Market Economy, Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC)

She was born in October 1963 in Beijing. From 1981-1985 she studied at Material Management Engineering Department of Beijing Economics Institute and received Bachelor's Degree in engineering. From 1989-1990 she attended an advanced English training course on economics in the University of International Business and Economics. From 1993-1996 she studied at Trade Economics Department of Renmin University and received PhD Degree in economics.

She took her first job in 1985 and worked as a statistician in Beijing Construction Materials Supply Company. From 1987-1993 she worked respectively as lecturer and head of Teaching and Research Office for Material Management of Beijing Wuzi University. She joined DRC in 1996 and took the posts respectively as Director (1996-2003) and Deputy Director-General of the Institute for Market Economy (from 2005 onward) as well as Deputy-Editor-in-Chief of China Development Press (2003-2005).

She has participated in a number of international projects for academic cooperation and exchanges. From April-June 1996 she visited Erasmus University Rotterdam, Holland as a visiting scholar and worked on the project of "A Comparative Study on the Development of Chain Business between China and Europe" financed by Keith Thurly Foundation. From January to August 2001 she did research work on the project of "China's Integration into the World Economy; Policies and Challenges" at the headquarter office of OECD in Paris. From July-August 2006 she visited Korea Institute for International Economic Policy as a visiting scholar and worked respectively on the project of "A Comparative Study on the Development Policy of Logistics Industry between China and Korea" and "Research on the Housing Policy for Lower-Middle-Income Residents". From July-October 2011 she visited RAND Corp. as a visiting scholar for research on Chins-US logistics policy, agricultural product logistics, and US think tank development. From December 2011-September 2012 she took the post as a consultant at the Economic Development and Research Bureau of the Asian Development Bank and worked on the project of "Service Industry and Asia's Future Growth" and was responsible for the evaluation of the final report on the development of China’s service industry.

She is awarded government special allowance and concurrently a professor and tutor of PhD candidates at Renmin University and the University of International Business and Economics. She is an expert of the National Inter-Ministerial Joint Committee for Development of Modern Logistics.
