Bu Luo Tuo is a character in the Zhuang people's oral history, who is deemed as the god of genesis, ancestors, and morals. Bu Luo Tuo is the name of the long, poetic legend of the Zhuang people, which is mainly about how Bu Luo Tuo created the world and mankind. It is passed down orally in Tianyang in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD), it was written in ancient Zhuang characters, and part of it became the sutra of the folk religion of the Zhuang people.
Bu Luo Tuo discusses how its namesake created the world, mankind, all the Earth's creatures, local emperors, words, and moral principles, and reflects the course of evolution of human beings and the state of the tribes of the ancient Zhuang people. In terms of history, literature, religion, letters, phonology, and musicology, it is extremely valuable.
As the Zhuang people's oral poetry legend, Bu Luo Tuo is original in content, and in the long course of passing it on, it has been completed and improved by generations. Not only can it help Zhuang people learn their history and meet life's demands, it can give them an education as well.
For historical and other reasons, Bu Luo Tuo is now nearly lost. Through investigation, the search for files, research, and publication, and through the establishment of the Bu Luo Tuo cultural protection village, singing group, and art school, this old art will hopefully be protected and brought back to life in modern society.
