Academy of Engineering reveals new members

The Chinese Academy of Engineering has published the names of its newly elected members, China.org.cn reported on Thursday.

Fifty-one Chinese scientists and six foreign scientists were elected members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in this round of elections, which started in January. Xu Qinan, chief designer of Jiaolong, China’s manned submersible, was one of those chosen.

Following the election, there are now 807 Chinese members and 45 foreign members.

The youngest of the new Chinese members is 48 years old, while the oldest is 77. The average age is 56.9.

Elections are held every two years with no more than 60 members chosen.
