Lhasa launches two Tibetan-language TV channels
Two new television channels started broadcasting in the Tibetan language on March 26 in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet autonomous region.
Chi Dralha, Party chief of Lhasa, said Lhasa was the only Chinese capital city with just one television channel.
The launch of the two channels ended that era. It marked another milestone in the city’s pursuit of greater cultural appeal, he said.
He made the remarks as the broadcasting company, Radio and Television in Lhasa, held a ceremony for the occasion on March 26.
The company’s first television channel broadcast in Tibetan and Chinese languages. Now it broadcasts exclusively in Chinese.
One of the new channels broadcasts news, entertainment programs and soap operas that are translated into the three dominant Tibetan dialects in the region. One music program on this channel can broadcast songs on demand to send viewers’ regards to friends and relatives.
The other new channel presents tourism resources, cultural attractions and practical tips for tourists in Lhasa.
