Ma Huijuan: Where waters of Yellow River cannot reach, care of Party Central Committee always can
Located 70 kilometers away and with an elevation difference of 304 meters from the Yellow River, Hongsipu district in Wuzhong city, Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, was once a place beyond the reach of the Yellow River — but it has never been beyond the care of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Through a major water irrigation project that pumps water from the Yellow River to the mountainous areas, the barren land has been transformed into a new home for relocated residents from the Xihaigu region.
Ma Huijuan dropped out of school at 16 due to poverty and started to work the land. After relocation, she persevered with her learning in between farm work, writing on her mobile phone and growing into a farmer-writer. She has personally experienced this transformation and witnessed how individual lives are intertwined with the progress of the times.
As a grassroots deputy to the National People's Congress, Ma has her roots in the people and works for the people, sharing the heartwarming story of how the CPC has enabled them to live a sweet life by channeling the Yellow River water to their neighborhood. She has been recording every subtle change in people's lives that adds up to the broad picture of national progress outlined in the country's five-year plans.
