SPP reports decline in prosecutors investigated and punished

The number of procurators placed under investigation and those punished after case conclusions both declined compared to the previous year, the Supreme People's Procuratorate announced on Wednesday.

Over the past year, procuratorial authorities have intensified efforts to regulate the exercise of prosecutorial power, strengthen discipline, and advance anti-corruption work, the SPP said. Special inspections were conducted to address irregularities in case handling and the use of authority. A total of 756 issues were identified and rectified, including failures to properly exercise delegated powers, inadequate supervision, overstepping authority, and misconduct such as inaction, delays, or improper intervention.

Accountability and disciplinary mechanisms were regularly enforced to ensure that prosecutorial power is exercised lawfully, fairly, and efficiently. Local prosecutor disciplinary committees reviewed 85 cases involving breaches of professional duties.

Additionally, the SPP emphasized strict enforcement of regulations designed to prevent interference in judicial activities. In 2025, procuratorial organs nationwide reported 161,000 instances of inquiries or attempts to interfere in case handling. Authorities conducted follow-up reviews to verify these reports and prevent cases influenced by personal connections or financial interests. From January to November 2025, a total of 97 procurators were held accountable after verification, the SPP stated.
