New Year holiday sees 595 million cross-regional trips
A total of 595 million cross-regional trips were made nationwide during the New Year holiday that ran from Thursday to Saturday, averaging 198 million trips per day, up 19.62 percent from the same period in 2025 and 5.74 percent higher than the 2024 New Year holiday.
Railway travel saw particularly strong growth, with 48.09 million passenger trips carried out over the three days and daily rail passenger volume averaging 16.03 million, up 52.66 percent year-on-year compared with 2025, reflecting rising demand for long-distance travel.
Road transport remained the dominant mode, accounting for 539 million trips, or about 1.8 million per day, marking a 15.7 percent increase from a year earlier. Trips made by private passenger vehicles reached 442 million, while commercial road passenger services handled 98 million trips.
Waterway passenger volume totaled 2.25 million trips, while civil aviation carried 5.88 million passengers.
