430kg cocaine seized at Shenzhen Port in joint China-US drug bust

China's anti-narcotics authorities recently seized 430 kilograms of cocaine at Yantian Port in Shenzhen, South China's Guangdong province, following intelligence provided by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, marking another breakthrough in bilateral cooperation in combating drug-related crimes, the Ministry of Public Security said on Tuesday.

The narcotics were uncovered on Nov 26 inside a suspicious international container. The case is currently under further investigation, according to the ministry.

As previously stated by the ministry, anti-drug agencies from both nations have earnestly implemented the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during their Busan meeting in South Korea on Oct 30.

Their proactive collaboration has yielded remarkable results, with joint investigations launched into multiple drug-related cases and cross-departmental anti-drug task forces established for greater communication and exchanges, said the ministry.

China has intensified anti-narcotics cooperation with the US in recent years, with the establishment of a bilateral counternarcotics working group in January 2024, the first meeting of which followed the 10th China-US drug intelligence exchange conference.

In February 2025, acting on tips from the DEA, Chinese anti-narcotics agencies and the China Coast Guard netted seven suspects and more than 4,900 kg of methamphetamine near Huangyan Island in the South China Sea.
