Lee: Vote to drive reform and help HK fire victims

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu on Sunday called on all eligible voters in Hong Kong to cast their ballots for representatives who will "drive reform and safeguard disaster victims" as he voted in the eighth Legislative Council general election.

Lee arrived at Raimondi College polling station in the Mid-Levels shortly after 8:30 am and swiftly completed the voting process. He described the experience as "convenient and smooth", praising the arrangements in place, such as dedicated polling stations and a two-hour extension of voting hours to facilitate public participation.

The Chief Executive also noted the role voters will play in efforts to help those affected by last month's devastating fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po that has killed at least 159 residents, and described the election as a step toward systemic improvement and support for the affected residents.

He pledged to propose a disaster relief motion at the new Legislative Council's first meeting, aiming to work with legislators in supporting affected residents.

"The first meeting of the Legislative Council will discuss support for the disaster victims," Lee said. "We'll consult with the lawmakers as soon as possible. Through our discussions, we aim to find the truth swiftly and expedite recovery and reconstruction efforts."
