BRICS think tanks explore new paths for green development

China will continue to advance green cooperation among BRICS nations, assistant minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Jin Xin, said at an international symposium, "Green BRICS, Golden Future", held at Renmin University of China on May 25-26. He also proposed strengthening policy coordination and technology sharing.

Nearly 60 scholars and experts from over 20 countries engaged in in-depth discussions on global green transition and explored cooperation opportunities for BRICS nations in areas such as energy, finance, and technology at the symposium. On the occasion, the RUC announced the launch of the Global South Joint Research Initiative on Green Cooperation to provide policy support for developing nations.

Sergio Queiroz, a researcher at the Institute for Applied Economic Research in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, emphasized the role of digital technologies in green transition and suggested establishing a joint BRICS research center. Muritala Oke, a senior fellow at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Nigeria, highlighted challenges such as funding shortages in developing countries and called for a BRICS green technology-sharing platform.

At the event, the Global South Green Cooperation Workstation was officially inaugurated to facilitate practical collaboration between Chinese enterprises and BRICS partners in clean energy and other sectors.

The symposium, co-hosted by the Chinese Chapter of the BRICS Think Tank Council and Renmin University of China, included multiple thematic sessions. Participants reached broad consensus on issues such as energy transition and carbon market development.
