Mountain village aims to complete vital road by Spring Festival
A high-altitude mountain road, connecting Jiantian village to the Enshi Grand Canyon Scenic Area in Enshi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture, Hubei province, is expected to open before the upcoming Spring Festival, just in time for the peak tourist season next summer, Hubei Daily reported.
Resting at 1,900 meters above sea level and stretching about 3.5 kilometers, the road has encountered various difficulties during construction, ranging from unfavorable geological conditions to fund shortages. The last one kilometer is even sat on a cliff. However, the villagers have overcome these obstacles and seen the light at the end of the tunnel through their persistent efforts.
Since the project's inception in July 2022, over 3,000 villagers have volunteered their labor, resulting in savings of more than 1.2 million yuan ($168,108) in labor costs and other expenses.
The completion of the road holds significance beyond the convenience it would bring to the villagers. It will also connect the Enshi Grand Canyon with the Tenglong Cave Geological Park, two scenic areas within the prefecture, attracting tourists from Chongqing and other neighboring regions to visit.
