DPP's dirty trick of buying Western support

Whatever excuse the Taiwan "foreign ministry" may give, it cannot deny the fact that it paid former United Kingdom prime minister Liz Truss￡10,841 ($13,757) for her travel, hospitality and accommodation, while the "pro-independence" think tank Prospect Foundation paid her ￡80,000 for her speech.

In other words, the authorities on the island were buying the support of someone who was UK PM for the shortest term, just 45 days, at the expense of Taiwan taxpayers. The ruling Democratic Progressive Party wants taxpayers to bribe Western politicians for its "independence" dream.

This is a typical example of the dirty deeds "pro-independence" politicians in Taiwan engage in. At a time when they are losing their last few "diplomatic relations", they are busy buying visits from Western powers to give residents the impression that they still have friends outside the island.

Ironically, it is the people who are being cheated themselves that are paying for the games. Can it get any worse?

Further, by inviting spent forces such as Truss and former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo to the island, the ruling DPP has exposed to the whole world its blind worship of the West. For long, local media outlets in Taiwan have been mocking the DPP for taking orders from the US.

None of these efforts will help the DPP realize its "independence" dream. China's national reunification is irreversible and the DPP is nothing but a clown trying to stop a train.

You can buy support from outdated politicians, but you can never buy the support of people through deceit or changing the sure trend of a nation. That's the ABC of politics that the DPP needs to learn.
