China's Winter Olympic host promotes hydrogen industry

SHIJIAZHUANG -- Zhangjiakou, the co-host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics, plans to increase its annual hydrogen production capacity to 10,000 tonnes ahead of the event.

The city will put two hydrogen generation projects into use by the end of March, and the construction of three other projects is expected to complete before June 2021, according to a plan released by Zhangjiakou in north China's Hebei Province.

By then, the city will be able to produce 38.1 tonnes of hydrogen a day.

Meanwhile, a total of 16 hydrogen refueling stations will be built in Zhangjiakou before the end of June 2021, the plan said.

Zhangjiakou was thrust into the global spotlight when the city and Beijing won their co-bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in 2015. The number of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the Zhangjiakou competition zone is expected to reach 2,000 during the Olympics.
