Changchun the ‘Detroit of China’? Don’t believe it

To relieve traffic congestion, Changchun has built a new streetcar line, a series of elevated expressways and a brand-new 16-stop subway line, while it has also started construction on its second subway line.

A network of expressways is needed to handle all the new traffic in Changchun.

It has also built a series of four- and six-lane roads to connect the city with its new suburbs that are spreading out in every direction.

The Changchun Longjia International Airport is undergoing its second major expansion in the last six years.

I cannot think of any Canadian or American cities that can equal Changchun’s rapid growth in transit and road improvements.

Growth in the private sector has matched the improvements in the public infrastructure.
