BEIJING - Chinese top legislator Zhang Dejiang called for open dialogue between Chinese and US legislatures when meeting with US President Barack Obama on Wednesday.

Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said that Chinese and US legislatures should improve exchanges so as to offer better legal protection for business, investment and people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides should be aware of their differences and concentrate on cooperation, he said.

Obama told Zhang that the US side hopes the Congress and China's NPC can have better communication so as to bolster bilateral ties in the political aspect.

He said China's drive to promote the rule of law will make the country stronger.

Obama arrived in Beijing Monday to attend the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting and pay a state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
