Oil tanker exploded by lightening in Texas

HOUSTON - Lightening caused several oil tankers at an oil storage facility to explode in the US state of Texas on Saturday, officials said.

Storm and lightening Saturday caused a two-alarm fire at an oil storage facility at Cy-Fire in Harris County, Texas, local TV channel ABC13 quoted fire department sources as reporting.

The fire started only about a block away from one of the fire department's stations, and firefighters were able to react quickly, according to the report.

Firefighters found several tankers of crude oil on fire after the explosion, and another tanker exploded while firefighters were responding to the fire, the report said.

"We've still got lightning out here, we've got firefighters out here fighting this fire in this weather. It's a dangerous situation not just with the oil burning but also with the weather blowing through," said Dean Hensley with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

Authorities were monitoring air quality and no one was hurt in the accident, according to the report.
