Vietnam reports first A(H1N1) case

HANOI -- Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Sunday confirmed the country's first A(H1N1) case, a student who has just come back from the United States, Vietnamese online newspaper the Young People reported.

The 23-year-old patient, identified as L.Q.T by the newspaper, is now being quarantined and treated at the Ho Chi Minh (HCM) Hospital of Tropical Diseases, according to the newspaper.

A total of 188 passengers have traveled on the flight No. 869 of the United Airlines with the patient, said Nguyen Van Chau, Director of Ho Chi Minh Department of Health.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has made a name list of these passengers. A large part of the passenger lives in HCM city while others live in other southern provinces.

Meanwhile, HCM Hospital of Tropical Diseases took samples of five people who have had frequent contact with the patient for examination, but all found negative with the virus.

The patient started to show symptoms of fever on the evening of May 25. He went to seek medical assistance on May 27 and was transferred to the HCM Hospital of Tropical Diseases on May 29. Tests of the hospital showed the patient is positive to A/H1N1 virus.
