Entrepreneur: Happiness key to life in HK

Ten years ago, Geng Chunya came to Hong Kong to pursue graduate study at the City University of Hong Kong after he completed undergraduate education at Tsinghua University in Beijing. After graduation he opened his own company providing social-network service in Hong Kong Science Park with government funding. Geng also devoted himself to promoting communication and exchange among young mainlanders in Hong Kong. He is also the chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Mainland Graduates, the secretary-general of the Association of Mainland Overseas-Returned Scholars in Hong Kong and the Tsinghua Alumni Association of Hong Kong. Since 2007, Geng has been a member of two advisory bodies to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) government, including the Committee on Youth and the Sir David Trench Fund Committee.

As a technophile from the mainland, Geng Chunya started a startup in Hong Kong because of the city's preferential policies and favorable financing conditions. For the past ten years, Geng has observed the rapidly narrowing gap between the mainland and Hong Kong both materially and culturally. He has also witnessed a growing number of mainland young people settling in Hong Kong for study or work every year. Geng said, these young people are very outstanding and have complementary strengths to benefit the local talent market. He advises them to step out from their own community and to fit in with the local culture of Hong Kong.
