The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences is renowned worldwide for awarding excellence in the global travel and luxury services sector. Each year the Academy bestows its coveted International STAR DIAMOND AWARD exclusively on five star establishments that are deemed to be of pinnacle quality by its esteemed Board of Trustees. The International STAR DIAMOND AWARD is the most prestigious emblem of achievement and true quality; an award many strive for, but few obtain.

The Academy, based in New York City, is directed by Mr. Joseph Cinque and governed by an international Board of Trustees. All members of the Board are respected leaders in the industry and are themselves, world travelers. Valuable sources from around the globe routinely submit nominations of five star establishments to The Academy for review. The Board then refines the selection to those who qualify for the ultimate evaluation – an anonymous visit by qualified inspectors.

Among those recognized worldwide by the American Academy are five star quality hotels, restaurants, chefs, airlines, cruise lines and products. Evaluations of establishments are based primarily on gastronomy, hospitality, attitude, quality, cleanliness and above all, service. The decisions of the American Academy are based exclusively on whether the establishment demonstrates a commitment to excellence in luxury and service within its category and classification. This standard of dedication is what sets the American Academy’s internationally recognized STAR DIAMOND AWARD apart from all others.

Every March, for the past ten years, The Academy hosts an important award gala ceremony in Berlin during the International Tourismus-B?rse, the largest international travel trade convention in the world. The Hotel Adlon has hosted the event for the past eight years. Over the years, Joseph Cinque has assembled a series of celebrity chef teams that have included Alain Ducasse, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Ferran Adriá, Dieter Muller, Marc Haberlin, Annie Fèolde and Gabrielle Kreuther, among others.
