          A boy in Zhejiang province gave his father a life-saving blood donation to combat bone marrow disease on Monday.

          The boy, 8, told a local newspaper that he wants to save his father, "no matter how much blood he has to donate", Zhejiang Online reported. The stem cells in the donation are a key ingredient in tackling the disease.

          Star remembered

          Movie stars, singers and fans attended an emotional concert in Hong Kong on Monday to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of pop-diva and actress Anita Mui.

          Stars, including Andy Lau and Jacky Cheung recalled her outstanding talent at the event, complete with a stage decorated with a white staircase and red carpet that echoed the stage used for the diva's last concert a month before her death, in Hong Kong's Convention and Exhibition Center.

          Mui died at the age of 40 on Dec 30, 2003.

          Smoking civil servants

          Civil servants are finding it difficult to stub out the smoking habit, according to a survey released on Tuesday.

          About 61 percent of male civil servants smoke and half of them have never attempted to quit, the survey, carried out by the Chinese Association on Tobacco Control, found.

          Only 37.3 percent of civil servants planned to quit smoking, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

          Wolves plague Xinjiang

          Roaming packs of wolves have claimed more than 5,000 heads of livestock in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region last year, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

          Herdsmen, not allowed by law to hunt the wolves, hope that insurance will cover their losses, the report said.

          A mother's care may be going a step too far for a woman in Hubei province. On 19 separate occasions her mother chaperoned her when she was dating men.

          The woman, 31, surnamed Cheng, is a college teacher, with a PhD degree, in Wuchang city. Her mother claimed that she was concerned her daughter might be taken advantage of, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reported.

          Bank card cloned

          A meal turned into a costly experience for a woman in Guangdong province after her bank details were stolen.

          A suspect, surnamed Chen, is facing charges that he stole information regarding her bank card while she was having a meal at a restaurant and withdrew 3.7 million yuan ($611,000) from her bank account.

          With the information he gathered, the suspect, now in detention, allegedly cloned a bank card with the woman's bank details and withdrew the money in April, the Yangcheng Evening News reported.

          'Unclear allegations'

          A man in Henan province was held in police custody for 27 days on the basis of what the government said were "unclear allegations".

          Zhao Xianli, from Luyi county, was held by police without charge. Zhao used to be a village official and he went to Beijing to submit, what he said was, evidence of local government corruption, the China News Service reported.
