T-mac fouled out as Qingdao tastes five straight wins

BEIJING - Former NBA star Tracy Mcgrady was fouled out for the first time since his arrival in China, while that did not stop Qingdao Doublestars' five-game winning streak to come as they edged Tianjin Ronggang 140-138 through two overtime in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League on Sunday.

T-mac scored 23 points and seven assists. Chris Daniels, who made a decisive block before the buzzer of second overtime, helped with a game-high 42 points.

Qingdao had a 89-73 lead into the final 12 minutes, while Tianjin strongly bounced back with a 32-16 fourth-quarter attack to tie the game as regular time ran out.

Mcgrady earned his sixth foul shortly after the overtime began, while Xue Yuyang and Daniels shone instead of him, with the former making three 3-pointers and the latter deciding the game with a block over Tianjin player Donnell Harvey's layup in the second overtime.

Tianjin's Harvey and Osama Daghlas combined 71 points and 19 rebounds. Zhang Nan pocketed 31 points, but was fouled out in overtime as well.

Thanks to five players' double-figure points, defending champions Beijing Ducks beat Xinjiang Guanghui 106-97 to halt a three-game skid.

"Before we visited Tianjin, I was aware that these three games were a great challenge for us. I hoped that we could at least get one victory, but we didn't realize that goal," said Min Lulei, Beijing coach.

"After the third straight loss, we lost confidence to some extent. I suggested that the team unite as one, and that proved well in tonight's game," he added.

Stephon Marbury had 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Ji Zhe tied his career-high 25 points.

Xinjiang made seven 3-pointers to build a 32-24 in the first quarter, but was later erased by a 11-3 run from the host.

As many games before, Marbury became the hero again with two consecutive layups to secure the victory for reigning champions in last quarter.

Leaders Guangdong Hongyuan routed over Fujian SBS by 128-87 to create the largest point gap so far this season. Yi Jianlian had a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, uppering his Fujian counterpart Wang Zhelin (17 points, 6 rebounds). Guangdong's Wang Shipeng scored 24 points from 7 of 8 attempted 3-pointers.

In other matches, Jiangsu Dragons was edged by Shanghai Sharks 95-94, Jilin Northeast Tigers downed Zhejiang Guangsha 101-90, Zhejiang Chouzhou edged Bayi Fubang 94-91, Shanxi Zhongyu upset Liaoning Hengye 119-114 through overtime, and Dongguan Marco Polo held off Foshan Long Lions 141-133.
