Chile depressed after elimination

SANTIAGO -- The Chilean press expressed disappointment on Monday after the national soccer team was eliminated from the World Cup of South Africa with a 3-0 loss to Brazil.

"Chile lost to Brazil and says good-bye to the World Cup crying," the daily La Tercera read and stressed that forwards Carlos Carmona and Arturo Vidal were in tears at the end of the match.

La Tercera added that "there is also uncertainty about Chile's coach after the historical participation in South Africa."

"Chile could not stop Brazil and said good-bye to South Africa 2010," the website of the radio station Radio Cooperativa said, adding that "the team repeated its performance in France 1998, when it also was eliminated in the second round by Brazil."

Meanwhile, the daily La Nacion quoted midfielder Rodrigo Millar as saying that coach Marcelo Bielsa "has been the only one who can make the team to continue growing and now the decision is on his hands."

The local press also reported that Chilean President Sebastian Pinera invited the national team to visit La Moneda palace once they return to Chile.
