Airports in Shanghai have launched an emergency linked response mechanism to effectively evacuate passengers. Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport have added midnight lines for flights, which are in operation from 11:00pm to 12:45am after the last flight of the day, on a daily basis.

At the end of July, the number of carriages on the midnight lines of Pudong International Airport increased from 20 to 29, dispatching 50 trains per day. Trains are dispatched from stations at T1 and T2 simultaneously once they are full. The time required for a passenger to get on a train is less than 10 minutes during rush hour.

In consideration of the great number of passengers going to Shanghai South Railway Station, the hours of operation for airport Line 7 were extended from 11:00pm to midnight from July 29-31.

Targeting flights at night, the T2 taxi stand of Pudong International Airport has been using a car dispatching model in rush hour by utilizing two lanes, two dispatch points and 10 parking spots to rapidly evacuate passengers.

It dispatched almost 10,000 taxis on a daily basis recently and transported over 4,000 passengers in rush hour at night, an increase of 54 percent compared to normal traffic.

The airports have also communicated with the subway system to add and extend subway operation, preparing emergency buses to transport passengers. Passengers lined up at the T2 taxi stand exceeded the ceiling at 4:00am on July 28, so Pudong International Airport used emergency buses to transport passengers to People’s Square in the city center.
