The 2021 Top Medical Equipment Industry Incubation Alliance Forum of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was held in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing on June 9, with the Chongqing Medical Equipment Technological Research Institute launched during the forum.

Zhang Yukui and Wang Lijun, two CAS academicians, delivered keynote speeches at the event.

Luo Lin, deputy secretary of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Party Work Committee and director of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, told the forum that Liangjiang had a lot to offer.

He said it was the third national and the first inland development zone to respond to the national call to open up, boasting an advanced manufacturing system supported by four major sectors – automobiles, electronics information, equipment manufacturing and biomedicines.

Luo added that as an indispensable part of the bio-medicines sector, the medical equipment industry was an intensive high-tech field where many scientific, engineering and medical disciplines overlapped each other.

He also pledged the new area's future commitment to attracting more top-flight national and global medical equipment programs – as well as to learning from the experiences of the CAS Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology in scientific and technological achievement incubation.

The new area will combine its edge in industrial foundation, talents and capital with advantages given by members of the alliance to forge a chain that integrate basic research, technology transfer and mass production.

Several Chongqing-based bio-medicine companies and R&D institutions, including CAS Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology, were officially admitted as new members of the alliance.
