Three veterans joined hundreds of students for a Wartime Memories walk in Nanjing, Jiangsu province to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the victory in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, on Aug 14.
The event started at the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall at 8:50 am and lasted for three hours, taking the participants along a 5.7-kilometer route to the Zhonghua Gate, with members of the Nanjing 1213 Volunteer Team and students from Nanjing Normal University taking part.
One of the three veterans, Zhang Xiuqi, said that we must not forget our history and should continue to learn from it, and cherish today and work hard for a better future. He was supported by Wang Weimin, the deputy head of the Memorial Hall, who said that these commemorative activities are held every Aug 15 to honor those who gave their lives in defending the homeland.
