Bijie is located east of Guiyang and Zunyi, south of Anshun and Liupanshui, west of Zhaotong and Qujing in Yunnan province, and north of Luzhou in Sichuan province.
It is also the birthplace of the Wujiang River, the Beipanjiang River and the Chishuijiang River.
Bijie governs two districts (Qixiangguan district and Bailidujian tourists district), seven counties (Dafang, Qianxi, Jinsha, Zhijin, Nayong, Weining and Hezhang) and 250 villages.
With a total area of 26,853 square kilometers, Bijie had a total population of 8.34 million at the end of 2010. The average elevation of Bijie is 1,600 meters.
Most parts of Bijie enjoy a humid subtropical climate, with annual average sunshine of 1,231 hours, average temperature of 13.09 C, annual precipitation of 1,129 mm, a frost-free season spanning 266 days, and a forest coverage rate of 38.75 percent.
On the whole, Bijie enjoys a rather pleasant and comfortable climate.
