Challenge to Japanese architecture
The highly developed Japanese construction industry represents the highest construction level of Asia and possibly the world. As the representative of the high-end curtain wall market in the world, Japan takes a big share in the international project contracting market. Due to its important position, Japan has set a good example for Chinese curtain wall companies to establish their own brands.
The COCOON project contracted by Yuanda Group is located in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It is a typical building of the world, and also one of the most difficult projects in Japan. The main building is of a height of 203m, and covers an area of about 5,170 m2, with 4 underground floors and 50 aboveground floors. The construction area of the project reaches 80,903 m2, and the area of the curtain wall reaches almost 30,000 m2. The main building is of a steel structure. The main building is intended as a vocational school, which includes the specialties of costume designing, computer and medical care. These three specialties are the rudiment disciplines of employment-based skill training. That is why the building is called COCOON, which has an original meaning of silkworm chrysalis. The name COCOON symbolizes that, as the fundamental training, the three skill trainings should like the silkworm chrysalis to have extraordinary vitality to break away from the "cocoon". Besides, the external surface of the project is like a cocoon wrapped by cocoon fibers. Therefore, the project has a meaningful name and united image and theme.
The project is located in a prosperous area of Tokyo, and will become one of the landmark buildings of the city. For this reason, many famous companies participated in the bid of the curtain wall of the project, but failed because of the difficulties of the construction. However, Yuanda Group, relying on its strength and good fame finally won the bid.
In the beginning of 2008, the last patch of products for the project was transported to Japan and now the project has entered the last stage. The meaningful building with perfect image has already been shown to the people. So far, the construction quality, progress and coordination have been recognized by the owner of the project and have been highly praised by companies in the same line of business.
