Is homeschooling beneficial or detrimental to children?

I was homeschooled until I was about 12. In Australia, we have a remote school option for people who live away from the cities. We were taught through mail. I would say that you can learn as much knowledge as people in a school, but there is a lack of social interaction and also a lack of discipline, both of which have affected me in my working life. I also have two brothers who were schooled at the same time, but you need more than just your family to interact with if you want to do well in the larger society.
