Are traditional family values outdated?

I think if the wife loves her husband and family very much she will be more cooperative, but she still always have some say in the family, even if her husband is very dominant and successful. Chinese parents may be stricter but at least the family is held together. However, many westerners have broken families and they see their friends more important than their families. I think verbal or physical abuse is always unnecessary and always more harmful than helpful.
