While integration points to the future of development, connectivity is the foundation that makes development possible, while innovation and reform will provide constant propulsion. They bring hope for a prosperous future for the region.

'Shaping the Future Through Asia-Pacific Partnership", this year's theme for APEC, will help boost the healthy development and prosperity of economies not only within the region, but also worldwide, at a time when global economy faces severe challenges, according to Pornchai Tarkulwaranont, a renowned economist from Thammasat University, Thailand.

The idea of drafting a roadmap for APEC propelling the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area was raised this May and discussed in several past meetings; and there is high hope it will be included in the declaration of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. After it passes, the roadmap will be one of the biggest achievements of 2014 APEC, because it will propel trade, investment, population flows and technology cooperation throughout the region.

The APEC week is both a platform for China to rally support for its diplomatic initiatives, and a precious opportunity to display its economic achievements. Before the meetings, China declared the possibility of loosening the restrictions on foreign investment in China, as well as its objective of increasing investment overseas. Participants will feel China's sincerity in boosting trade and being further open to the world.
