Human rights dialogue is based on mutual respect

No country's human rights conditions are flawless. Efforts to promote and protect human rights should never cease, said an article in People's Daily (excerpts below).

The 18th human rights dialogue between China and the United States opens in Kunming, Yunnan province, on Tuesday. The two countries would are expected to have frank and in-depth exchanges based on equality and mutual respect to promote the progress of human rights in both countries.

China's human rights efforts have always been open to the world. China actively participates in world human rights cooperation and dialogue. China is the signatory party of many important international covenants on human rights and plays a unique role in safeguarding the interests of developing countries on human rights issues.

It is natural that different countries have different views on human rights issues. However, after the Cold War, some Western countries still classify other countries according to their ideological prejudices and use human rights issues to attack countries with different political systems.

Seeking common points while preserving differences and mutual respect are the foundation for human rights dialogue among different countries.

China is willing to have dialogue with any other country based on this principle.
