The United States completed preliminary round play the way it began, with a crushing win.

It blasted past China 9-0 yesterday and set up a semifinal showdown with Japan.

Australia, which beat Venezuela 9-2, takes on Canada in the other semifinal

The mighty Americans scored all its runs in its first at bat then finished off the helpless host in five innings.

The Americans now have an unbeaten 21 game streak in the Olympics.

The rout leaves the US two wins away from a fourth and final gold medal. The sport is to be dropped from the Olympics after the Beijing Games.
