A film from the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, True Love, got recognition at the 45th India International Film Festival, in Panaji, Goa, recently, for its outstanding depiction of a Uygur woman who adopts 19 children from different ethnic groups in spite of her own difficult life.

The festival got its start back in 1952 and became an annual event in 1975. This year saw nearly 200 films from several dozen countries up for review, with the Russian film, Leviathan, directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev, capturing the highest award, the Golden Peacock. The festival also had a China Unit that showed nine Chinese films, such as Caught in the Web, Finding Mr Right, and Silent Witness.
