Since October 30, 2007, the construction of the industrialized base for a new generation of carrier rocket has been progressing smoothly in the Tianjin Economic and Technological Area. The construction of the principal framework for the tank welding and assembling workshop has finished and it’s predicated that the whole project will be finished in late March. From this July to late this year, such projects as the casting workshop, forging workshop, comprehensive sheet metal processing workshop and comprehensive machinery processing workshop will be finished in succession.

It’s said that the 27 500 square meters tank welding and assembling workshop is divided into main workshop and auxiliary building, of which, the main workshop adopts steel frame structure and a series of manufacturing procedures as the welding and assembling of the big-thrust carrier rocket will happen here in the future. In addition, the cold-drawn steel tube production line which kicked off in late 2008 will be completed in this May. The predicated total investment of the rocket industrialization base is 1.26 billion yuan. The big structural components with a diameter of 5 meter will be developed in the base this year and the welding and test will be finished in late this year.

It’s said that in light of the commercial satellite launch market in the globe and the higher requirements on satellite launch and deeper space exploration in the country, China has put the development of the big-diameter, big-thrust, high-reliability, low-cost and zero-pollution new generation of carrier rocket onto the agenda.

The success of this carrier rocket project will greatly raise China’s ability in entering the space and boost the development of the space science and space application industry in China and the scientific progress of a multiple of fields.
