Tai'an is a prefecture-level city in western Shandong province. Centered on Mount Tai, the city borders the provincial capital of Jinan on the north, Laiwu on the northeast, Zibo on the east, Linyi on the southeast, Liaocheng on the extreme west and Jining on the south. To the west, Tai'an is separated from Henan province by the Yellow River.

The city has been named a "National Historic Cultural City", and "China's Excellent Tourism City".
