An exhibition displaying paintings and photos of Shanxi folk customs and dwellings, which are a key part of Shanxi culture and art, was held at Shanxi Library in Taiyuan from Aug 15 to 25.
The exhibition consisted of four areas focusing on paintings of Shanxi dwellings, photographs of ancient towns and villages, as well as cultural communication between Shanxi and Shanghai through reading activities.
Many artists depicted the charms of Shanxi's ancient buildings, streets and residents’ houses, such as Yungang Grottoes in Datong, Wubian Temple in Jinzhong and alleyways in Taiyuan, through 120 pencil drawings.
Photos capturing the daily lives of residents in ancient villages and towns were also on display at the exhibition.
The most attractive part of the event was the carbon pencil paintings of life in Taiyuan, which has a history dating back 2,500 years. The paintings depict the moments of workers, peddlers and buskers, reviving the city's past.
