The high-tech toilet facility the “Fifth Space” will be unveiled for citizens in Taiyuan city.
The toilet will be installed with free WiFi access, ATM machines, vending machines and charging facilities for mobile phones and new energy vehicles.
It will be the first Five Space toilet built in Shanxi province.
Beijing Municipality initiated the concept of the "fifth space", a place where people can feel comfortable other than their home, work, social circles and cyber space.
Special toilets for children and barrier-free facilities for the disabled are installed. Baby sitting facilities and children's chairs are also built in to provide a clean and private space for parents and children.
More female than male toilets have been installed to tackle the problem of long queues at female facilities.
The core technologies applied in the toilet are deodorization and water-saving flushing. Through high-tech equipment to add water pressure, the water used in the Fifth Space can be reduced by 50 percent or more from the national standard use of water in toilets.
The Fifth Space will also be a rest station for public sanitation workers, who rarely have a proper place to take a break during their work.
The establishment of the Fifth Space came after the installation of similar facilities in Beijing and Haikou city in Hainan province.
The construction of the Fifth Space public facility has been listed as one of the major projects to improve people's daily lives in Taiyuan.
China has had four "toilet revolutions" since the 1960s, which eliminated pit toilets and fees for use, and also renovated public toilets nationwide.
The promotion of Fifth Space is expected to be the beginning of the fifth toilet revolution in the country to build a multi-functional high-tech public facility.
