The 2019 World Autonomous Vehicle Ecosystem Conference was held in Jiading district of Shanghai from Sept 16 to 17.
Jointly hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the event aimed to promote the commercialized operation of the intelligent-connected vehicles, implement the national strategy of Yangtze River Delta region integration, and enrich the practical experience of 5G technology application.
The first batch of intelligent-connected vehicle application demonstration licenses was issued during the conference.
SAIC Motor, BMW, and Didi Chuxing become China's first three companies to obtain the licenses. They can kick off ICV application and explore ICV commercialized operation in Shanghai, the first city in China to issue such licenses.
Jiading district government, along with SAIC Motor, Huawei, China Mobile, and other enterprises, jointly launched the world’s first 5G based smart transportation demonstration project of 5GAA (5G Automotive Association).
According to local officials, the project is designed to explore an ecological chain of smart travel, promote the demonstration application and operation of 5G internet of vehicles, and create a model of smart transportation.
The project is expected to open to the public in Jiading district in 2020.
The third phase of the roads open for ICV testing was also released at the conference.
Lu Fangzhou, head of Jiading district, noted that in the past year, the district has defined the development goals, built the innovation platforms, and gathered a number of outstanding enterprises for its automobile industry, deepening the integration cooperation of the Yangtze River Delta.
In the future, Jiading will continue to promote the development of the automobile industry, especially the ICV industry. It will also aspire to take the lead in technological breakthroughs through greater innovation, build an industrial ecosystem with greater openness, optimize the development environment, and move forward to becoming a world-class automobile industry center.
