An international forum on intelligent vehicle technologies recently took place in Jiading district, Shanghai, on July 14, where global experts gathered to discuss the latest developments.
The forum is a joint effort by the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, Suzhou Automotive Research Institute of Tsinghua University, China Automotive Talents Society, Shanghai International Automobile City, Innovation Center for Internet-connected Vehicles Technology, and Sweden's Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers (SAFER).
The two-day event attracted more than 500 attendees from Chinese and overseas automobile giants, auto parts companies, universities, communications and Internet enterprises, who attended forums and gave presentations on their latest research findings.
Internet-connected cars, a key part of an urban intelligent traffic system, are helping to acceleratethe restructuring of the auto industry.

Considered to be a safe, comfortable, energy-efficient and environment-friendly means of transportation, Internet-connected cars are expected to have a promising future and play a key role in the popularization of green energy vehicles.
A total of six topics were discussed at the forum, such as environmental perception and intelligent security systems, development, testing and certification, driver-assistance and man-machine interaction, key technologies for Internet-connected vehicles and intelligent roads, communication platforms and information security technology and supporting technologies for Internet-connected vehicles.
In addition, attendees also took part in a panel discussion, where they were exposed to a wide range of ideas on the challenges of highly autonomous driving, cross-industry integration, distinctions between driver assistance and technology for unmanned vehicles, development of intelligent roads and communication technology, and high-precision maps and navigation technology.
