An art image exhibition depicting Shandong province's unique cultural charm and picturesque scenery opened on April 19 at the Weihai Pavilion in Inchon, South Korea.

It accompanies a series of cooperative exchanges and will be held until May 17.

Themed on "Confucius' Hometown, Beautiful Shandong", the exhibition offers insight into the natural landscape and cultural atmosphere of the Mount Tai, the Yimeng Mountain, the Yellow River, the Grand Canal, three Confucius sites, the Great Wall of Qi, Qingdao city, Weihai city, and other locations.

The highly-acclaimed images display a high level of photographic techniques including skillful composition and wonderful color effects.

Wang Yanjun, director of the China Cultural Center in Seoul and counselor of the Cultural Office of the Chinese Embassy in South Korea, made a speech at the opening ceremony.

He noted that Shandong is the nearest Chinese province to South Korea and is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Koreans. And Shandong is home to a majority of Korean expatriates.

Wang hoped the China Cultural Center in Seoul will cooperate with Shandong in various sectors to facilitate exchanges between the two sides.

A sinologist from South Korea said that Shandong is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization and its world-class cultural heritages of Mount Tai and three Confucius sites are evidence of its past glory. Shandong's long splendid history has nurtured numerous ancient thinkers such as Mencius, Sun-Tzu and Mo-tse, creating a distinctive Qilu culture. What's more, Confucian culture is an integral part of Chinese traditional culture.

A signing ceremony was held for memorandums of understanding between a Shandong enterprise and two Korean organizations. The purpose was to promote cooperation in work, exhibitions, personnel training and high-level information and academic exchanges.

The exhibition, endorsed by the China National Arts Fund, will tour South Korea as a prelude to the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation scheduled from April 25 to 17 in Beijing.

As part of the event, an array of promotional performances, lectures, and interactions have already started in South Korea and will last until mid-May.
