The Canadian delegation, one of the largest attending, joined more than 1,350 exhibitors from 44 countries taking part in the three-day event, the largest held so far.

This year the Canadian delegation brought a diverse range of high-quality foods to the expo, including lobster, cold-water shrimp, salmon, surf clam and snow crab -- all well-received by potential customers and visitors.

2016 marks an important milestone in the Canada-China relationship after back-to-back visits by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to China and Premier Li Keqiang to Canada in September.

Canada is a world leader and renowned reliable source of high-quality, safe agricultural, food, seafood, wine and beverages. The country's climate, geography and environment provide a natural advantage for safe food and drinks production, including abundant clean water and land resources, a cold climate that inhibits pests and diseases, and a winter season that enables a natural resting period for soils.

In 2015, Canada was the third-largest supplier of fish and seafood to China after Russia and the US, with sales of $646 million, an increase of 26.8 percent over 2014. The leading Canadian products imported included frozen cold-water shrimp and prawn ($143.3 million), live lobster ($114.8 million), Atlantic salmon ($9.23 million), surf clams ($0.94 million), fresh crab ($93.6 million), frozen snow crab ($57.7 million), and frozen crab ($51.2 million).

More and more Chinese consumers are developing a preference for high quality Canadian agri-food products, as well as fish and seafood.
