There are over twenty kinds of temple fairs in Zhangjiagang city, but the Xiangshan Temple Fair is the most representative one, which dates back to the Tang and Song dynasties.
According to legend，Taoism founder Zhen Wu achieved immortal hood on the lunar March 15. Thus on lunar March 15, the Xiangshan Temple will hold 3-day grand Buddhist religious ceremony to celebrate the event every year.
Different performances will be displayed on the stage, including dancing, acrobatics and marching.
In countryside, the lunar March is a slack season with little field work. Owing to the favorable conditions, the Xiangshan Temple Fair are still prosperous until today.
The Xiangshan Temple Fair has been listed as Zhangjiagang’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
