Zhejiang South Design Company, engaged in the construction of Wuxi's internet of things town (IoT town), announced that the town will launch nine to ten projects in 2017, the Wuxi Daily reported on Jan 18.
According to a plan released at the 2016 World Internet of Things Exposition, an internet of things town will be developed in Hongshan. The township of about 60,000 people will include IoT research and development, production and innovative applications. Hongshan will also develop tourist attractions, and urban and business areas featuring IoT functionalities.

Located in the Wuxi National Hi-tech District, the IoT town has housed many IoT enterprises while enjoying a profound Wu Culture and favorable ecological environment. South Design must therefore tackle questions about what kind of functions can be given to those ordinary buildings, what kind of scenes can be equipped with sensors and how can old buildings be combined with smart technology, according to Hu Yong, South Design's executive chief architect.
South Design sent 10 teams on round-trips between Hangzhou and Wuxi every week during their one-month preliminary investigation. These teams contained a large number of professionals in such fields as policy research, industry development, landscape design, big data and cloud computing. They conducted aerial photography sessions, more than 80 site surveys and made architectural portfolios for some 1000 factories, houses and public buildings.
According to Hu, an exhibition hall for the IoT town will be built to showcase IoT applications, as well as provide meeting rooms and a hotel. Visitors will be able to learn more about the IoT town and IoT applications.
