Jiangnan University, a national key university directly under the jurisdiction of Central Government and the Ministry of Education, is one of the key universities in the “Project 211” and “985 Platform” programs. As one of the top 100 universities in China, Jiangnan University is one of the 72 universities directly under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Education and one of universities in the of national 111 Program.
Located in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, the famous city besides Taihu Lake, on the south bank of the Yangtze River, Jiangnan University, with the reputation of “Pearl of Higher Education of Light Industry” for its beautiful scenery, enjoys a long history and profound culture.
Since its founding as Sanjiang Normal College in 1902, it was once named National Central University and Nanjing University. During the department adjustment in 1952, the Food Industry Department of Nanjing Industry College (the present Southeast University) was established. In 1958, after readjustment, the department was moved east to Wuxi and became Wuxi Light Industry College, which changed the name to Wuxi Light Industry University. In January, 2001, approved by the Ministry of Education, Wuxi Light Industry University, Jiangnan College, and Wuxi Education College were amalgamated into Jiangnan University.
Jiangnan University, after nearly a century of history and 50 years of construction and development, has now become a famous comprehensive university with reasonable scale and structure, excellent teaching quality, and outstanding effectiveness, whose scientific research, teaching, and service are all recognized by the public.
Jiangnan Film and Television Art College
Jiangnan Film and Television Art College is a full-time higher education institute in film and television art. It?has been formally approved by the Ministry of Education.
The university is located in the Wuxi landscape tourism area in the Yangtze Delta area, with advanced science and technology, education, and culture, which is inside the Yangtze Delta. Wuxi Fisheries College, Nanjing Agricultural University
Wuxi Fisheries College of Nanjing Agricultural University was built by Nanjing Agricultural University and Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences in July, 1993. Thanks to the solid basic teaching conditions of Nanjing Agricultural University and advanced professional teaching conditions of Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, the college has produced a large number of outstanding professionals and management talents for the Chinese and International fishing industry.
The college aims to promote the fishery sciences and production in China and other developing countries, so that fishery products could play an important role in reforming the food structure of human beings, improving people’s nutritional conditions, and creating economic wealth. After constant efforts, the college has become an international education and research center of fishery sciences.
Located in the southwestern of Wuxi and?near Taihu Lake film and television base of CCTV, the college is only 10 kilometers away from the downtown. It enjoys both lovely scenery and convenient transportation. People can take Bus No 1 and Bus No?820 directly to the college that owns a space of 26 hectares and a construction area of 35,000 square meters.
Nanjing Agricultural University has worked with Freshwater Fisheries Research Center since 1984, setting up the Freshwater Fisheries program(vocational). The undergraduate?program of Freshwater Fisheries was set up in 1994. Now the undergraduate and vocational as well as master and doctoral?programs of Aquiculture are established.
The college permanently recruits foreign students in order to produce professionals in freshwater fisheries for countries in the Asian-Pacific region. In the future it will?improve the education for foreign students by admitting postgraduates. The recruitment of foreign students was once strongly supported by FAO, UNDP, and NACA.
Seven teaching and research sections have been set up, covering fields of biotechnology research on inheritance and breeding of freshwater fish led by Xia Dequan (a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), nutrition and fodders, breeding of special aquatic species, research on diseases of aquatic products, protection of fishery environment, fishery economy and information, and aquaculture in inland waters. Among the 340 present workers of the college, there are 80 teachers with advanced job titles, 18 middle-aged and young experts with the Ministry of Agriculture who have made outstanding contributions or enjoy special government allowance, three teachers with doctoral degrees, and 25 with master’s degrees.
As for the scientific research, the college has undertaken and successfully completed over 190 projects including NSFC projects, “863 Project”, national key projects, and projects on provincial and ministerial levels. Among 85 awards and achievements, there are?a second National Scientific and Technological Progress prize and four second National Scientific and Technological Progress prizes. The related project?won Agricultural Institution Comprehensive Prize for Scientific Research Ability by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1992.
