Xilin Gol builds organic meat industrial zone

On Sept 19, the Xilin Gol Organic Beef and Mutton Industry Demonstration Zone was officially opened in Xilinhot, a city in Inner Mongolia’s Xilin Gol League. Also taking place was the 2016 Xilin Gol-International Academic Forum on Organic Husbandry Industry Development which was making its debut in China.

It’s the first time the International Meat Secretariat (IMS) has chosen a Chinese city to host an academic forum concerning the meat industry.

The event invited more than 300 experts, scholars, and businessmen in the livestock field from 19 countries and regions, along with officials from the China Meat Association (CMA), the IMS, and the government of Inner Mongolia.

Since breaking ground in 2014, the meat demonstration zone has invested 2 billion yuan ($300 million) into the industry, with the target of combining the primary, secondary and tertiary industries, in order to build an organic beef and mutton brand across China.

As a large husbandry region, Inner Mongolia cannot achieve the goal of increasing crops and livestock production, and in turn raise the income of local farmers and herdsmen, without the engagement and promotion of large regional companies, according to Wang Yuming, the vice-president of the government of Inner Mongolia.

“The red meat demonstration zone will accelerate the transformation from traditional husbandry into modern industry, and it will further benefit the development of industrialization, standardization and brand-building of livestock products,” said Wan Hui, deputy secretary of Xilin Gol Party committee.

Xilin Gol established the organic red meat industrial project, aiming to build a processing base for livestock products and a comprehensive area covering standard livestock breeding, intensive processing and high-end meat goods. It is hoped that the project will bring significant benefits to local husbandry and herdsmen.
