China's generating unit in pumped storage power station with the biggest capacity comes on stream

On Nov 21, the No 4 generating unit in Bailianhe pumped storage power station in Hubei Province, installed by Engineering Company Ltd. of China Gezhouba Water & Power (Group) Co.(Engineering Company Ltd.), started to generate electricity after 30-day reliability commissioning.

This is the first generating unit put into operation in this station and the first one in a pumped storage power station with the biggest capacity successfully installed by CGGC.

Located in the juncture of Xishui County and Luotian County in Hubei Province, the Bailianhe station has installed four reversible pumped storage generating units with the capacity for each being 300,000 kilowatts, which is the biggest capacity for this kind of generating units in China. All the four generating units were installed by Engineering Company Ltd..

Since the start of the project, the project department, by following the principle of honesty, complying with the contract and pursing high quality, has elaborately organized the construction, intensified on-the-spot quality management, and ensured the quality and effective installation of the No 4 generating unit. A total of 101 items were examined for the unit, with 100 percent acceptance rate and over 98 percent being excellent.

When installing generating units for Yixing pumped storage power station in Jiangsu Province (250,000 kilowatts for each unit) in 2008, the Engineering Company Ltd has made a new industrial record at home by enabling four generating units to start generating power in seven months. The first generating unit with the capacity of 300,000 kilowatts in Bailianhe station came on stream, further proving the technological strength of CGGC in installing pumped storage generating units.
